The Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) announced the laureates of the 2023 GCSP Prize for Transformative Futures in Peace and Security on May 30. Introduced in the fall of 2022, this accolade aims to acknowledge ingenious concepts displaying extraordinary potential in addressing urgent challenges related to peace and security. The award ceremony unfolded virtually as part of the GCSP Transformative Futures Day, embracing the digital sphere to honor groundbreaking ideas.

João Costa secured the second position for his groundbreaking VOI Methodology. Derived from John Rawls’ “Veil of Ignorance,” it holds promise for improving lives in fragile environments.

An impressive total of 171 projects were submitted to the GCSP, underscoring widespread interest and involvement in confronting critical peace and security issues. After a rigorous assessment process, the prize jury meticulously scrutinized 15 shortlisted projects to identify the most exceptional contributors to the field. Ultimately, three outstanding initiatives were acknowledged, signifying a notable milestone in their recognition and potential impact on the global stage.

João expressed gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the methodology’s potential to bring positive change. The GCSP Prize marks a significant milestone, emphasizing the transformative impact of VOI in creating social impact and community development.
